Nigeria: No More Absence - Abuja NGO Works to Improve Menstrual Health – AuthenticAfrican

Posted on by All Africa

[Nigeria Health Watch] Sylvia Egar was 13 years old in 2017 when she started her period for the first time. Her mother had never discussed the menstrual cycle with her, so she thought the painful, bloody discharge meant she was going to die. When her mother returned from the market later that evening and heard what had happened, she and a friend explained what having a period meant, they then bought sanitary pads for Sylvia and showed her how to use them.
