Hundreds of Nigerians fleeing mob attacks have been airlifted out of South Africa, leaving behind their jobs and stores, homes and hopes.

The announcement is the latest effort to respond to anti-immigrant violence in South Africa that has consumed leaders and citizens of the continent’s two largest economies.
