[allAfrica] Cape Town -The Sahel region faces crises across multiple fronts, including the accelerated impact of climate change, rapid population growth, extreme poverty and underdevelopment. As these challenges intensify, international attention on Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger has increased largely owing to the spread of violent extremism and use of the region as a transit route for migrants to Europe, according to the Institute for Security Studies.
